National library collections

Over the years the National Library has made remarkable progress in its collection development and houses one of the richest and most comprehensive collection of Mauritiana materials. The National Library Collections comprise of more than 697,000 items (as at February 2023) and include:

  • Monographs 
  • Serials and annual reports 
  • Newspapers 
  • Stamps 
  • Manuscripts and private archives 
  • Posters and photographs 
  • Maps 
  • Audiovisual materials ( video and audiotapes, CDs, VCDs, DVDs and CD ROMs)

All materials acquired for the Library’s collection is catalogued in conformity with accepted bibliographical standards including the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR2), Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) and Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). Users can search bibliographical information of these materials on the National Library Online Pubic Access Catalogue (OPAC).
